π― What You'll Achieve
When a new fan subscribes to your page, you'll receive an instant Telegram notification with:
The fan's name
A direct link to the conversation
Any custom note you want to include
This helps you stay on top of new fans and respond quickly while they're most engaged.
π Step-by-Step Setup
Step 1: Create a New Automation
Go to Automation β Create automation in your Substy dashboard.
Step 2: Set Up the Trigger
In the Trigger section, select "Fan just subscribed" from the dropdown.
This triggers immediately when a new fan completes their subscription.
Step 3: Configure Your Audience (Optional)
For new subscriber notifications, you'll typically want to keep the default settings to be notified for all new fans.
Optional refinements:
Exclude certain lists if needed
Use filters to only notify for subscribers who meet certain criteria
π‘ Tip: Leave audience settings neutral to get notified for every new subscriber.
Step 4: Set Frequency
Choose "Send every time the fan matches the trigger" to receive a notification for every new subscription.
Note: Since a fan can only subscribe once (until they expire and resubscribe), this setting ensures you catch every new subscriber.
Step 5: Enable Telegram Notifications
Scroll down to the Actions section and toggle on "Notify employee on Telegram".
Recipients β Select yourself and/or team members who should receive the notification
Additional note (optional) β Add context like:
"π New subscriber!"
"New fan just joined"
Use the quick-insert buttons to include dynamic info:
+ Conversation URL β Direct link to the fan's chat
+ Fan Name β The fan's display name
Recommended Note Template
π New subscriber: {Fan Name}! Chat: {Conversation URL}Step 6: Optional β Combine with Welcome Message
This is a great opportunity to also send an automated welcome message:
Toggle on "Send a message"
Create a warm welcome message like:
"Heyy thanks for subscribing! π"
"Welcome babe! So happy to have you here π₯°"
Optionally enable "Generate with AI" for personalized welcomes
π‘ Pro tip: You can set up a message sequence with a follow-up a few hours later if they haven't responded.
Step 7: Save and Activate
Click Create automation to save. You'll now receive Telegram pings for every new subscriber!
π Quick Setup Summary
Setting | Value |

"π Fan came back: {Fan Name}!"

π‘ Pro Tips
Respond quickly: New subscribers are most engaged in the first few hours β quick responses lead to better retention
Personalize your welcome: Use the conversation URL to jump in and send a personal follow-up
Track weekly signups: Add new subs to dated lists (e.g., "Dec Week 1") to monitor growth
β οΈ Things to Keep in Mind
Make sure your Telegram is connected in your Substy settings
Each team member needs to be set up as a recipient to receive notifications
High-volume pages may want to filter or batch notifications to avoid overload
